Enyim Solicitors Secures Release of Wrongfully Incarcerated Orphan, Reaffirming Commitment to Justice and Prison Decongestion

Last week, as part of my commitment to community development and corporate social responsibility, I had the privilege of securing the release of Mr. Abdul from the Ikoyi Correctional Centre.

Mr. Abdul, an indigent orphan from Northern Nigeria, faced significant hardships after deciding to convert from Islam to Christianity. This courageous choice strained his relationships and ultimately led to his wrongful arrest and incarceration. Two former associates, with whom he had severed ties, filed trumped-up felony charges against him, accusing him of fraud.

Our law firm was contacted through a colleague, and we immediately took up the case on a pro-bono basis. After rigorous efforts, we successfully secured his release.

This case reinforces Enyim Solicitors’ dedication to prison decongestion and to upholding the constitutional principle enshrined in Section 36(5) of the 1999 Constitution, which guarantees that every individual is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
